Vintage Style Oak Haberdashery Counter
A low oak haberdashery cabinet, that could also work as a counter handmade by us in England, based on the traditional haberdashery and drapers' cabinets found in British shops throughout the early to mid 20th century.
Made in oak and ply, the cabinet has sixteen glass front display drawers arranged across four sections, with four larger drawers below. Each of the drawers is fitted with a simple polished brass handle, while the larger lower drawers have traditional brass cup handles.
The glass fronts allow the contents of each drawer to be easily seen, a practical feature traditionally used in haberdashery shops to display and organise fabrics, accessories and smaller goods.
The oak has a warm colour with a strong natural grain, complemented by the hand polished brass fittings. The construction and proportions have been kept in keeping with the original shop fittings that inspired the piece.
The cabinet provides a large amount of practical storage while also allowing smaller objects to be displayed. It would work particularly well for jewellery, accessories, textiles and samples within a retail interior, but could equally be used in a home, studio or dressing room.
