We are fortunate to have come across this fabulous 1920s oak library bookcase, with a glazed display section above a large two-door cupboard offering plenty of additional storage.
Made from quarter-sawn oak, the upper section has a pair of tall glazed doors opening to three wooden shelves, framed by deeply reeded uprights and topped with a moulded cornice. The lower section has two panelled cupboard doors opening to further shelving. Both sections retain decorative metal drop handles and escutcheons.
The cabinet has more recently had its library-style lettering hand-painted, which has been intentionally aged and distressed to work with the existing surface and character of the oak. The lettering is a later decorative addition.
A wonderfully practical piece with plenty of character, it would work particularly well as a bookcase, shop display cabinet or storage piece within either a commercial or domestic interior.
