Antique Mahogany Lowboy

£475.00

A fabulous late 19th century mahogany lowboy, dating from around 1890s to 1900s and made in the Queen Anne / Georgian revival style.

The lowboy has a rectangular mahogany top above five drawers, arranged as three drawers over two drawers below . Each drawer is traditionally constructed with dovetailed joints and fitted with decorative brass drop handles.

The front is finished with a shaped central apron, while the corners have simple fluted detailing. The piece stands on four elegant cabriole legs, each with carved scroll decoration to the knee and gently shaped feet.

The piece has more recently been adapted with hand-painted drawer labels in the style of a traditional country-house estate office, reading “Keys”, “Notes”, “Staff”, “Stables” and “Letters”, together with a painted heraldic motif to the centre. The lettering and decoration have been added or retouched more recently and are not original to the piece.

The mahogany has developed a warm colour and good surface, with knocks, marks and general wear throughout consistent with its age and use.

This piece would work equally well as a hall table, side table, dressing table or decorative storage piece.
