1920s Draper’s Countertop Needle Drawer Cabinet
Now this is a lovely little find. Dating from the early 20th century, this small countertop haberdashery drawer cabinet was most likely originally used within a sewing or draper shop for the storage and organisation of needles and other small sewing items. The cabinet is made from dark stained beech and fitted with three drawers, each retaining painted labels reading “Our Own”, “Celebrated”, and “Needles & C.”
Each drawer is finished with decorative brass drop handles, while the interiors are divided into small compartments, originally intended to neatly organise packets of needles and other small accessories. Pieces like this would typically have sat behind the counter of a draper’s or haberdashery shop, allowing the shopkeeper to quickly access different types of sewing supplies.
Today it works beautifully as a decorative storage piece for a desk, workshop, studio, or interior, while also making a wonderful display item in a retail setting.
We believe the hand-painted labels may have been retouched at some point over the years, making them a slightly later addition to the piece.
