1910s Oak Commercial Counter

£1,800.00

A large early 1910s oak commercial counter, with an unusual L-shaped form and plenty of original character from years of use.

The customer-facing front and sides are constructed with panelled oak sections, some decorated with applied oak detailing in the form of stylised folded ribbons. The counter stands on a substantial moulded plinth with a wide oak counter top.

To the working side are four graduated drawers, each retaining its brass cup handle and keyhole, alongside two large open storage shelves. The drawers are traditionally constructed with dovetailed joints.

The counter remains in a wonderfully untouched condition, with a rich colour and plenty of surface wear, knocks and marks throughout. The top is particularly worn from years of commercial use, with losses to the finish and some movement between the boards. There are also some losses and damage to the lower mouldings.

A great example of an early 20th century commercial shop fitting, offering plenty of useful storage and a good-sized working surface. It would work particularly well as a shop counter, reception desk or bar.
