A late 19th century Gothic Revival carved oak church pulpit, dating from around 1890 and originally from a church in North London.
The pulpit has a wonderful polygonal form, with richly carved oak panels decorated with Gothic arches, floral motifs and foliage. The panels are divided by turned oak columns with carved capitals, with a row of individually carved flower heads running beneath the moulded oak top.
The reverse is simply panelled and retains a small internal shelf. We believe the piece originally formed part of a larger pulpit arrangement and would most likely have been raised, possibly with an adjoining staircase.
The oak has a lovely deep colour and patina, with plenty of wear, knocks and marks from its many years of use.
